Södra to deliver 9,100 m2 of cross-laminated timber for Göteborg Grand Central
Construction of Göteborg Grand Central in Gothenburg, Sweden, has begun, featuring a new station building in a newly developed district. Södra, in partnership with Hybridge, is supplying 9,100 m2 of cross-laminated timber (CLT) for parts of the building's structure, according to Södra.
The new station building prioritizes sustainability, with most of its structural framework made of wood, combined with recycled brick, climate-improved concrete, and recycled steel. The building will be nearly 120 meters long and more than 20 meters high, with exposed wood elements inside to promote sustainable construction.
Södra's CLT deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2025. The station building is expected to be completed in December 2026, with the upper floors finished in early 2027. The project's architect is Oslo-based Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, with PEAB as the main contractor and Jernhusen as the owner and future manager of the building.
