Norra Skog raises the price of power poles
From 10 February 2025, Norra Skog will increase the price of power poles by an average of 20 percent. "Pipeline poles are one of the most profitable products that can come from a forest," says Jonas Arvidsson, Marketing Manager Timber.
The reason for the price increase, according to Norra Skog, is a strong global demand for power and telecommunications poles. This has been noticeable at Norra Skog's pole factory in Agnäs, Västerbotten, which has had stable production and good sales even during the recession. According to Norra Skog's information, Agnäs post factory produces between 50,000 and 70,000 turned pine posts in lengths of seven to 19 metres annually. In the factory, the posts are measured and debarked to later be turned and sorted in length and dimension. The posts are then dried for up to ten months. Upon delivery, the dimensions, humidity and quality of the poles are checked. The end products are delivered to about ten countries. "It may sound unexpected, but recessions are usually good for us. Major infrastructure projects are being carried out around the world, which drives up demand for electricity and telecommunications poles," says Johan Lundberg, site manager at the pole factory, in a press release.
At the end of 2024, the amount of pole timber delivered to Agnäs increased by 41.3 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
"With this price increase, we are further strengthening our offer to forest owners," says Jonas Arvidsson, Marketing Manager Timber at Norra Skog.
