Grupo Penha S.A. to install new quality control system at its packaging plant in Itapira, Brazil
Grupo Penha S.A. will install an advanced quality control system at its packaging plant in Itapira, São Paulo state, Brazil, designed to improve production efficiency and product quality. The new system, supplied by Valmet, includes three scanners, a moisturizer system, and automated warp control to optimize moisture profiling and reduce paperboard sheet warping. The start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, according to Valmet Oyj.
Penha’s Itapira plant specializes in producing corrugated cardboard packaging for multiple industries. The new system is designed to stabilize moisture levels in paper rolls, a key challenge due to Brazil’s varying climate conditions. The automation features include the Valmet IQ Warp Measurement System for two stackers, two Valmet IQ Single-Sided Scanners with IR Moisture Measurements, a Valmet IQ Scanner S with IR Moisture and MW Total Moisture sensors, and an IQ Moisturizer with four spray beams for moisture control and profiling. Additionally, the system will integrate IQ Reporting for data collection and process optimization.
Rodrigo Godoy, Project Manager at Grupo Penha, stated that the system is expected to resolve long-standing issues related to moisture profiles and sheet warping, ultimately improving production efficiency. With five operational mills across four Brazilian states, Penha continues to expand its capabilities to meet growing packaging demands.
